About Me, Ms. Emmott:
I love teaching and I love music. I am both a musician and a teacher, and I often bring my music to my teaching, and my teaching to my music. If you've been to my class before, you know what I mean.
I enjoy travel and have been lucky enough to see and live in many countries, including Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, Spain, France, Australia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand, My extreme wanderlust is coupled by my strong love for languages. I am fluent in both Spanish and French. In 2009, I graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Major in French Literature, and in 2010, I became a teacher after completing my practicum teaching in inner-city schools in Oaxaca, Mexico.
I am enthusiastic about surfing, songwriting, running and hiking. As part of the Vancouver local music scene, I can be found gigging around the city.
My approach to teaching is a lot more hands-on than what I guess I will call the traditional way of language learning. I believe that the more memorable the experience, the more the language sticks. I try my best to make my classes both entertaining and rich with content. I do hope that someday my students go out and discover what beautiful gems this world has to offer, because it is so amazing to be able to use another language when one is abroad. I feel my true job is to get them to love learning languages. I could force vocabulary and verbs all I want, but if the love of language is not there, the learner will not learn. I am here to ignite that love within them!
See you in the classroom,
Ms. Emmott
